Community Land Scotland Project Showcase 

The first part of a joint online event between Carnegie UK Trust and Community Land Scotland which explored the opportunities and challenges associated with community ownership in towns, led by Midsteeple Quarter. In this session, the MSQ team provided an in-depth dive into our plans and journey so far and what the reality of community ownership and community-led development in towns really means.

 

A New Future for Scotland’s Town Centres

Midsteeple Quarter has been highlighted in a Scottish Government report released on Tuesday 3rd February, which looks at the importance of town centres in Scotland and key ways in which they can be made stronger. In the review, Midsteeple Quarter project in Dumfries has been hailed as a good example of a community focused development which has made a difference in the local town centre.

 

Stirling Retail Blog Post

Leigh Sparks from the Institute for Retail Studies and Chair of Scotland's Towns Partnership wrote an article on our January Crowdfunder, commenting: "Community ownership of assets breathing new life into centres across Scotland has been a theme, and a success of recent years. There is still much more to be done, and it needs to be made easier and simpler, but we are, I believe on the right path. One of these success stories that is held up as showing the way forward is Midsteeple Quarter in Dumfries. It is often seen as pioneering and a model to emulate across Scotland."
