4th December 2020

We were delighted to be joined by Georgetown Primary School on Tuesday 10th November for a visit to the High Street to find out more about Midsteeple Quarter Project and the buildings involved, including The Oven and the recently purchased buildings - The Smithy and The Press.

Scott Mackay, Manager of Midsteeple Quarter Project, led a presentation, providing the school children an insight into the project and the progress made since Midsteeple Quarter began. Scott’s presentation allowed the children to understand the dynamics of how the High Street works, focusing on questions such as:

  • Who owns the buildings?

  • Who uses these buildings?

  • How is the local community involved?

The children were then invited to submit their own ideas about the High Street and how they would breathe new life onto Dumfries High Street. We received excellent responses from the children, who took the time to think of ways in which we could bring activity and creative to the town centre. Their suggestions included:

  • Painting buildings bright colours

  • Producing exciting and special events for holidays

  • More green space, such as a ‘Secret Garden’

We’d like to say a huge thank you to Georgetown Primary School for joining to find out more about the project - they contributed some fantastic ideas and suggestions for the future of Dumfries High Street.
