D-LUX Festival of Light ‘Wraps the Toon’ this Christmas
4th December 2020
D-LUX Festival of Light returns to Dumfries High Street this December with an exciting new project called ‘Wrap the Toon’, which invites people to submit their own wrapping paper design to help deck Dumfries with colour and pattern this festive season!
Midsteeple Quarter are delighted to be working with D-LUX this year, providing the use of The Smithy and The Press for their projections which will be creating magic in the town, lighting up the shop fronts and many others in exciting ways. D-LUX will be using the buildings over the festive period for a short while - this is a great way for the buildings to be in use while we continue on internal works to make them viable business and community spaces.
“Having The Smithy and The Press as a resource allows us to think up new ways to light up the town after dark. Having these properties in community ownership immediately creates a resource we can use to improve the town centre. What a great example of community partnership working and lots of fun too!”
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, D-LUX have reimagined their regular three-day multi-venue festival and will be instead running four different projects in and around the Town Centre over the next few months. ‘Wrap the Toon’ is the first of these, taking place from 11th to 21st December, dark until late.
D-LUX would love as many local people as possible to get involved in wrapping the toon. Anyone can take part and you can use anything you like - coloured paper, card, paint, old crisp packets, or you could take picture of a pattern you see out and about, like car lights on wet roads or a stripey sunset. The aim is to make it as bold and colourful as possible!
“We wanted to bring some fun and creativity onto the High Street this festive season and involve as many local people as possible. Send us a picture or a scan of your design and we’ll project it around the High Street for everyone to enjoy.”
Head to www.d-lux.org.uk for tips and ideas and to upload your work, then take a stroll around Dumfries High Street between 11th and 21st to see your design projected into windows spaces and inside shops!
