Colin Smyth highlights MSQ in Parliament

Monday November 12

A few weeks ago, MSP Colin Smyth raised the Midsteeple Quarter Project as an excellent example of community led fightback to secure the future of Town Centres.

The Scottish Government need to provide funding to help community groups fighting to save our Town Centres, which is why I called for the Midsteeple Quarter to be used as a pilot for Scottish Government investment to make a real difference in Dumfries Town Centre and subsequent Town Centres across South Scotland. I’m pleased the Minister praised the Council’s Town Centre Living Fund. I proposed the fund in the last budget I presented when I was a councillor in Dumfries and Galloway . But we now need the Government to back that fund up with investment in the Midsteeple Quarter project.
