The first purpose-built Dumfries High Street homes in living memory are nearing completion in Midsteeple Quarter - and you can express your interest in living there.
The seven apartments under construction on the site of the former Baker’s Oven at 135-139 High Street will signal the dawn of a new era of stylish and sustainable living in the town centre.
Available for rent at a mid-market rate – with occupancy expected from summer 2024 - a variety of home types will be offered, suiting people in all manner of circumstances, from key workers and young professionals to those who want to live within easy reach of local services. They are made up of a one-bed live / work studio flat, plus six two-bedroom flats (three of which will be fully accessible).
People can register their interest in living in these homes now so that they can be kept up-to-date with the latest on the formal application process, which is expected to open in spring 2024.
The homes are the first step in the creation of a new neighbourhood in Dumfries town centre - one which is intergenerational, car-free, energy efficient and environmentally aware. They are being brought to the rental market with professional support from the vastly-experienced team from South of Scotland Community Housing (SOSCH).
Built to the most modern designs and using innovative building techniques, they will set new standards locally. Nothing else like them exists locally.

How will the application process work?
The homes will be owned by Midsteeple Quarter Community Benefit Society and managed on their behalf by a private partner.
Once open, formal applications for tenancies will be assessed against a set of agreed criteria which will be shared with applicants. The process of appraising and allocating the tenancies will be supported by SOSCH.
