Choose local in Dumfries this Christmas
We're blessed with brilliant independent local businesses who call Midsteeple Quarter their home - and it's vital that we all get behind them, and others throughout Dumfries, during the final countdown to Christmas.
So that's what we're asking all of our members to do this festive season: To show some love for the local people and businesses which are part of the fabric of our community.
By getting behind them - and embracing the opportunities to buy unique gifts - we can ensure that it truly is the most wonderful time of the year for people and businesses in our town.
Over the these final few shopping days, it would be fantastic to see as many people as possible to enjoy a trip on to the High Street and support local businesses. We're proud in Midsteeple Quarter to be home to:
The Bust Stop (109 High Street)
Flourish (111 High Street)
Craft Space UK (111 High Street)
Batter & Patter (The Smithy)
The Vintage Shop (The Press)
Ashagifts (pop-up space in The Standard until December 28th)
Christmas is critical to the whole year for local businesses.
As Flourish owner Leah Halliday posted on Facebook: “This time of year is so important for the shop as it helps us survive during the quieter months of the year. So if you've still presents to buy before the big day, then please do consider where they come from and make the decision to shop locally and small if you can.”
Every time we choose local, we are helping protect the jobs of or friends, family and neighbours, as well as playing our part in building a stronger future for our town.
We are pleased to be a supporter of Scotland Loves Local, which earlier this year revealed that £7.5m-a-year could be driven directly into Dumfries and Galloway's economy if everyone in the region spent just £1-a-week more with local businesses.
We're also pleased to support Dumfries Partnership Action Group in all of the work that it's doing to encourage people to support local businesses. Congratulations go to them for the fantastic job they have done with the High Street Christmas lights!
