Midsteeple masterplan wins design award
The masterplan to transform Midsteeple Quarter and breathe new life into Dumfries High Street has won a prestigious award.
Work commissioned by us and carried out by our partners at ARPL Architects has been named as a winner in the Scottish Design Awards 2022.
It took the prize in the masterplanning category, with the news revealed at a ceremony in Glasgow which celebrated the best of design from across the country.
We are delighted that the focus and imagination which has gone into creating our plan to reclaim the high street to create great spaces for people to live, work and visit has received further recognition on the national stage. All of this is work that has been led by the community here in Dumfries.
Its timing is, indeed, appropriate with work having started on our first major phase of construction, on the site of the former Baker’s Oven.
Midsteeple Quarter Executive Director Scott Mackay said: “This award is great news - and very well deserved by the team at ARPL Architects for all of the hard
work they put into supporting us in creating our masterplan. In so many ways it validates the vision that the people of Dumfries have.
“One of the things which makes this especially pleasing is the fact that it has come from professionals in the private sector design and architecture industry, making it a remarkably strong independent endorsement for the work taking place.
“We are very proud of how the masterplan is shaping our work as we strive to achieve the aspirations of the community to breathe new life into the High Street.”
