Midsteeple Quarter store will help creatives to Flourish
The arrival of new businesses to 111 High Street has been hailed as another milestone in the transformation of Midsteeple Quarter.
Social enterprise The Guild Dumfries has opened Flourish in the building, with ambitious plans which will provide a showcase for talented makers, creatives and producers.
Flourish will be the permanent home for a year-round retail collective on the ground floor, open six days a week.
As well as a shop, it features dedicated workshop space, flexible meeting and events space, as well as offices on the first floor.
As part of the project, The Guild will deliver a variety of activities and a programme of events, including creative workshops, after school clubs, exhibitions and talks.
Getting Flourish ready for the festive season
Welcoming the opening of Flourish, Midsteeple Quarter Executive Director Scott Mackay said: “We are delighted to welcome The Guild to Midsteeple Quarter and to see the opening of Flourish.
“To have new businesses move into 111 High Street is a significant step forward for us - symbolising the progress we are making in our work to reshape the town centre. There has been so much interest from people passing by about the work that’s been going on in the past few weeks.
“Flourish will be a tremendous addition to Dumfries High Street, providing a superb showcase for some of the fabulous independent makers, creatives and producers we are lucky to have in our area.
“The concept of Flourish created by The Guild fulfils Midsteeple Quarter's principles and values of encouraging new enterprise in the High Street, by providing a platform for businesses to grow and thrive. The Guild and its members have some really exciting plans for how they will use the building. We hope that everyone gets behind them.”
