Thank you to our Midsteeple Quarter volunteers
As the nation marks Volunteers’ Week, the team at Midsteeple Quarter has issued a special thank you to all those who give up their time to make our mission to reclaim the High Street possible.
As an organisation, we are blessed to have volunteers who put so much passion and energy into turning the community’s vision to breathe new life into Dumfries town centre by bringing buildings into community ownership and full use.
From Board members - who are all unpaid volunteers - to those who offer their time, skills and experiences to help with all manner of tasks, there are a great many who put so much effort into helping build a stronger, more sustainable future for the town.
The work of volunteers present and past is being celebrated by organisations up and down the country as part of the 38th annual Volunteers’ Week, which runs from June 1 to 7 every year.
Midsteeple Quarter administrator and coordinator Laura Moodie works with many of the volunteers who support the community benefit society’s work.
She said: “Midsteeple Quarter would not be here were it not for the Midsteeple People who drive our work - whether those who act on behalf of the people of Dumfries by ensuring we operate in the best possible way, to those who rally the community to support our work by raising funds, help us clear spaces and so much more.

“We exist for the benefit of the community. Our volunteers ensure that the views and ambitions of the people of Dumfries are reflected in all that we do. Their will underpins every decision we make.
“Thanks to the support of those who give their, we are entering an exciting era in our journey as we start construction work on the site of the former Baker’s Oven.
“Volunteers’ Week is an ideal moment to reflect on how much the time and expertise that people share means. As a small staff team, we cannot thank our volunteers enough.
“As we look towards developing our other buildings, the role they and the wider community will have to play in taking townfolks’ ambitions to the next level will be even greater. These are exciting times.”
Third Sector Dumfries and Galloway is hosting a series of events to mark Volunteers’ Week. You can find out more about those here.
