Help Discover Dumfries’ Heritage!
Sunday September 23
We need your help! Please come along armed with a cameraphone and an canny eye on SUNDAY 30th September (anytime between 10am and 4pm) to take part in a citizen’s survey of the condition of the buildings on the High Street. This is to support a funding application for much needed repair work to historic buildings in the town.
The Midsteeple Quarter, Dumfries Historic Buildings Trust and Dumfries and Galloway Council are working together to bid for funding from Historic Environment Scotland for a Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme for Dumfries Town Centre. If successful the bid would provide funding to support:
Historic repairs to a small number of large priority buildings in Dumfries Town Centre;
A small grants scheme;
Training opportunities in traditional crafts and construction skills;
Opportunities for the community to engage with the heritage of Dumfries Town Centre.
We need 30 volunteers, no specialist experience required, to help us carry out an initial survey of buildings in the town centre, as the first stage in this process. This will take place on Sunday 30th September and will take approx 2 hours, but any time you can give will be appreciated. All the information you need will be provided, and we would ask that you bring along your mobile phone or a digital camera to take photographs. You need to be 16 years of age or over to sign up for this event.
